Without the aid of any new technology, 3D sketches, and physical objects to imitate from, boat maker Ming-Shan TUNG reproduced a sampan boat which had been long gone in Kaohsiung for more than forty years. The only reference he got was a photo of sampan boat taken in 1954, and he relied on his experiences, key phrases from his memory, and traditional tools to bring the sampan boat to reality. The vanishing trades are brought alive in this exhibition thanks to TUNG’s craftsmanship.
